TIGSource is running a game contest in two parts: participants in the first part submit music and art assets, which participants in the second part can then incorporate into whatever kind of game they can imagine.

Charity auction update
Just a note to thank everyone who has bid on the care_faith_hope auction, and remind everyone that bidding closes tonight at 11:59 PM Pacific. I’ll ping all the winners of my auctions, but if the time rolls around and you see that you are the winning bidder, you can also go ahead and send your payment as described here.
Now the good news: the surgery has now happened and was successful; the patient received five stents in his heart and is home for recovery.
Bespoke IF, redux
Thanks to the people who’ve bid so far on my auction on custom IF: I’m thrilled that it’s been more successful than I had anticipated.
However, I’ve received some email from people disappointed that they were priced out of the auction and asking if I could make something else available as well. Multiples of that particular item are unfortunately beyond me because of the time commitment involved, but I have posted a couple of other smaller and more distributable items:
— source to one of my old games for which source is not publicly available (Galatea, Metamorphoses,
Savoir-Faire, Mystery House Possessed, Floatpoint); starting bid $5.
— light customization of one of my recent games for your personal amusement, or a cameo appearance in my WIP. Three such are available; starting bid $10, and the top three bidders will receive this item.
Silly stuff, I know, but perhaps it will amuse someone.
The cause is to help defray the medical expenses of someone who urgently needs heart surgery and cardiac rehab, and has no insurance. If you decide to bid, please note the instructions on bidding and payment. Auctions close at October 10, 2009, Saturday, 11:59 p.m. Pacific time.
Bespoke IF
In the midst of IF Comp may not be the best time for this, but life happens when it happens:
I am auctioning a short piece of bespoke interactive fiction to raise money toward a friend-of-a-friend’s medical expenses. In essence, I’ll write a 10-15 minute game to suit the winner’s preferences, with the restriction that I am not offering to write very gory or explicitly sexual content. Want a conversation game featuring a specific historical figure? A Savoir-Faire-verse puzzle game set in your house? A regency-romance short-short? A surreal synesthetic exploration of the concept of orange? You think of it, I write it. Details are here.
The awesome Yoon Ha Lee is also offering bespoke interactive fiction for this auction. Her listing is here. Edited to add: this offer was originally for fanfic-based IF, but it is now expanded to cover any form of short IF.
Bidding runs through Oct. 10, and if you’re not in the market for custom IF, there’s an assortment of fun stuff of generally fannish appeal as well — books, artwork, beta-reading services, jewelry, etc. — not to mention some awesome-looking baked goods.
An overall explanation of the auction’s background is here. If you decide to bid on anything here, please be sure to read the instructions about payment. Short form: please use PayPal, but try to avoid it being a credit card-based transaction, as the overhead on those is higher than on echecks or transfers of existing balance.
